Bike Ride in the Summer

Summers are days when there is no school and pools are open until school starts again. Last summer I went biking with my family in Glenn wood Springs.
I was standing in front of a small building with a green lawn in the front. Even though I would rather be at home playing with my neighbor or doing something more interesting. I didn’t feel in the mood to try new things right then. The bike rental was beside the small building. The bikes were displayed neatly in the grass and on the side of the road. My family had brought everything we needed for the sixteen mile bike ride. All we needed now were the bikes. My dad came over to us and helped us pick a bike. After that, we loaded them into the back of big white bus. A single chain attached the bus from the trunk holding every one's bike. More people joined us in the bus, after all the seats were taken the bus drove off down the road and to the trail.
The bus ride was about twenty or thirty minutes long. But it seemed to take forever. Finally, the bus pulled over to the side of the roadand everyone filed out. People unchained their bikes form the trunk and took off down the trail. Our family unloaded our bikes and took them for a test drive to see if they worked. I road around in the parking lot while I also took a look around. You could see the mountains in the distance, there was a river beside the trail flowing down towards the bike rental.
After a few more minutes of testing our bikes, we headed out on the trail. But before we left, my mom had to take a picture. Charlotte and I were desperate to get going, but my mom was persistent. So we waited a while. Finally my mom finished taking pictures and we took off down the trail.
It had now been about thirty or more minutes. We had entered the part of the trail that was all gravel and dirt. The good thing about this was that there were plenty of trees. This gave us some shade and kept us cool throughout most of the forest type trail. The damp grass smelled like mornings when it had rained the night before.
We stopped for lunch under a tree with a bench in the shade. Other bikers rode by as we ate. When we were done we got back on our bikes and started off again. There were only less than five miles left. We were approaching a tunnel now, as we passed through it we could here the echo of our tires as we went over the speed bump at the end.
It was about three in the afternoon now. That meant that it was the hottest point of the day. But now we were getting closer to the bike rental. I could see the city were the bike rental was located. All we had to do was bike on the road the rest of the way. There was small bridge that we crossed to get on the road. A small concrete wall separated the bike lane from the road were the cars drove to and from the busy intersection. Cars sped by trying not to get caught in the traffic.
My dad led the rest of the way. We followed behind him. We were approaching where we started. I could see the bike rental around the corner. And then we reached it, I was happy that is was over and also proud that I biked sixteen miles. I might not get to do this again when I'm 9, so it was one of those things that seemed like it was a once in a life time. It was actually fun and not boring like I thought it would be. I learned that it’s fun to try new things.
